“Buy less, choose well, make it last.”

– Vivienne Westwood

Sabine Werner designs and lovingly handmakes contemporary statement pieces in her studio in Aix-en-Provence in the South of France. She mainly works with eco sterling silver, resin and semiprecious stones, whilst strongly focussing on sustainability in her pieces. In her clean designs, she combines simplicity with a touch of luxury to create wearable art.

Words & Photography by Sabine Werner

I grew up in the South of Germany, studied architecture in Munich and attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. This background has defined my style and affinity for simplicity and minimalism, alongside my fondness for colour. For as long as I can remember I’ve been a jewellery lover, always looking to make new discoveries.

Whilst living in Australia back in 2010, I took my first jewellery making class so that I could start making my own pieces. The miraculous moment when I finished a simple ring band sparked my curiosity to learn more and more. After many classes, and buying my first tools, I was totally hooked!

INSPIRATION

It’s my curiosity which inspires and invites my creativity to grow. I take inspiration from colours, materials and textures, that you only notice when looking closely and paying attention.

BEST ADVICE YOU’VE RECEIVED

Just do it, try out new ideas and what’s the worst that can happen? I learned to be courageous from my mother who was a fearless and brave woman.

COVID-19

The global outbreak of COVID-19 slowed down our fast-paced day-to-day lives, something I was able to take advantage of by focussing on my jewellery business. On the other hand, this period of time has been challenging as well, because great opportunities available to me were no longer possible.

PROJECTS

I’m planning to strengthen my style by experimenting with one of a kind pieces, but I will also focus on stone setting in a contemporary way for statement pieces.
