CHRIS BRAMBLE & FREYA BRAMBLE-CARTER

Ceramicists. U.K.

London-born Chris Bramble discovered he had a gift with clay thanks to a generous art teacher, which led him to study ceramics at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art in the ’80s. He has exhibited extensively and his wheel-thrown porcelain pots and ceramic sculptures are distinctive in their marriage of African and European craftsmanship. Chris’s daughter, Freya Bramble Carter, recently joined her father in his West Hampstead studio. She has developed her own loyal following of collectors who covet her handcrafted, unique clay silhouettes and her artisanal glazes. Both Chris and Freya are dedicated ceramics teachers who describe teaching as an integral part of their development and communication as artists.

MY FELDT AND LINDA LOMELINO

Authors and artists. Sweden.

Tied together by their love of baking and each other, My Feldt and Linda Lomelino team up often for creative endeavors inside and outside of the kitchen. My is a baker, author of two baking books, and the owner of Feldts Bröd och Konfekt bakery in Halmstad, Sweden. Linda, also based in Halmstad, blends her love of baking and photography on her blog “Call me Cupcake” and in her four bestselling books.

My and Linda first collaborated in 2017 to create a book called “Blåbärssnår, äppelskrutt och rabarberskugga” (In English, “Nature’s Larder,”), which was awarded the Swedish Gastronomy Award that same year. In 2020, they published a second book, “Rullraån och Tankebrus”  (In English, “Mint Kisses and the Roaring In Your Head”), a baking book which is as much about what it means to be human as it is a collection of recipes. In this book, they tackle the topics of food, friendship, heartache, creativity, and creating beauty even when days are dark.

NATHALIE LÉTÉ & ANGÈLE FOUGEIROL

Artists, designers and ceramicists

Having collaborated with numerous international companies fashion brands such as Gucci, H & M and Pero to Astier de Villatte and Anthropologie. Nathalie and her husband, artist Thomas Fougeirol raised their children, Oscar and Angele in an idyllic creative environment in an old steelworks on the outskirts of Paris. Now grown up, both have chosen creative career paths with Angele stepping into a significant new role as her mother's studio assistant, undertaking an important transfer of know-how in running the creative and business side of Nathalie Létés creative empire. As the pandemic raged across the world in 2020, Nathalie and Angele collaborated to transform their country home, Maison Suzanne, into a painted wonderland. White walls were handpainted with Nathalie's signature whimsy and charm, and Angele crafted playful ceramic surrounds to frame doors and archways, transforming what was once a very traditional home into a work of art.  One we are certain will come to be cherished as a national treasure much like the Maud Lewis house in Nova Scotia or Charleston House, the home of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant in the U.K.

LA MAISON DU PASTEL

The oldest pastel manufacturers in the world.

Founded in 1720, La Maison du Pastel is the oldest pastel manufacturer in the world. Since 1912, its shop has been located in Paris while its atelier moved to the French countryside in the 1920s.  Today, the Maison is run by Isabelle Roché, whose family has owned and operated the business since 1880, and her partner, American artist Margaret Zayer. Originally, the Maison manufactured all types of art materials including watercolors, drawing pencils, charcoals, and pastels, but after Isabelle’s distant cousin Henri Roché took over in 1865, the Maison started focusing exclusively on fine-quality pastels. After much hardship, the Maison’s future was uncertain by the turn of the 21st century, until Isabelle took over more than two decades ago. Aided by Margaret’s arrival in 2010, La Maison du Pastel has now found its place in the world again. Today, the purveyor of fine pastels blends the perfect mix of historic and modern practices and principles—a formula as immaculate and unique as that of its pastels.
